Karolina Pliskova Will be in Action on Thursday

After parting ways with her coach, Karolina Pliskova has declared she won’t be looking at a new hiring this season and said her immediate aim is to qualify for the 2017 WTA Finals.

Ranked fourth in the world this week, Pliskova’s place in the WTA Finals is still unsure after falling off the top perch but she is confident that a lack of coach won’t hurt her chances.

Pliskova split with her coach David Kotyza after working with him for eight months following her departure from the US Open earlier this month. And she has said she isn’t looking to add to her current team as he fights to end the year on a high.

Having scooped up three WTA singles titles this season apart from the French Open semi-finals and U.S. Open quarter-finals, Pliskova lost three places in her rankings. And that is when she parted ways with her coach.

However, she said:

“Obviously I need a coach, but it’s not the main thing in my team. I can play good even without a coach.”

The Czech lost her number one ranking after her early exit from the 2017 US Open but can still regain the pinnacle of the WTA Rankings because of how open this season has been so far.

“This year, it’s very open when Serena (Williams) is not there. There’s a chance for everybody, every grand slam has had a different winner. It’s very close in the top 10.”

Pliskova admitted her first goal was to qualify for the WTA Finals which will be played in Singapore from October 22 this year. She said her aim was to play well and in turn return back to the top of the rankings chart.

The WTA Finals offers US$ 7 million as prize money and is a prestigious tournament in the women’s calendar.

Garbine Muguruza became the first player to qualify for this year’s WTA Finals but the other seven spots are still up for grabs.
