The only Masters event that is played in Asia, the Shanghai Masters is the penultimate one on the ATP calendar. It was first started out in 2009, with Andy Murray becoming the first multiple-winner of this competition when he won back to back titles at the Shanghai Masters.
Since then, the pair of Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer have won titles at this tournament while Rafael Nadal has been a two-time runner-up.
The 2023 Shanghai Rolex Masters will be played as a two-week event, one of the very few tournaments in the entire season to be played over more than a week. It begins from the week starting Monday, October 2 with its qualifiers.

2023 ATP Shanghai Masters Schedule & Dates
The 2023 edition of the ATP Shanghai Masters will be played across a two-week period starting from Monday, October 2 in Shanghai. The qualifiers can be expected to be held between October 2-5 while the round one matches of this 96-man singles draw will kick-start from Wednesday, October 4.
The quarterfinals, semifinals and final will be hosted on October 13, 14 and 15.

What Happened at the 2022 Shanghai Rolex Masters?
The 2020, 2021 and 2022 editions of the Shanghai Masters were cancelled because of the pandemic.
Daniil Medvedev‘s sterling season continued to prosper as he added a Masters title triumph to his kitty, winning this Shanghai Masters after beating Alexander Zverev in the final. He won in straight sets.
Interestingly, Medvedev didn’t drop a single set on his way to becoming the winner, defeating Fabio Fognini, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Zverev to lift the trophy.
Tsitsipas stopped Novak Djokovic in his path in the quarterfinal, overturning a set deficit while Zverev defeated Roger Federer in the same round in three sets too, in what was probably a shift towards the Next Gen of tennis stars.
