A revised schedule for Wednesday at the Italian Open 2019 was to have Novak Djokovic take to court as one of only four matches to be played on the day but it has now been decided no play will be possible.*
Incessant rain in Rome ensured play was washed out through most of the day and it was going to begin at 7.30 pm local time with Djokovic kick-starting the day’s action.
The Serb was going to take on Denis Shapovalov in his second round match looking to build on his strong showing at the Madrid Masters last week. Djokovic had gone on to win his second title of the year last week beating Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final.

In the second match on the centre court, Greek qualifier Maria Sakkari was going to be up against the 14th seeded Anett Kontaveit, another of the second round matches of the day.
There were going to be another couple of matches at Grandstand with the second seeded Petra Kvitova in action, who was going to play Yulia Putintseva on Wednesday according to this revised schedule. Out at the Pietrangeli Court, Germany’s Philipp Kohlschreiber was to face 16th seeded Marco Cecchinato for a place in the third round.
