Kevin Anderson v Pierre-Hugues Herbert Head to Head

The two players have met once on the ATP circuit at Winston Salem in 2015, with Anderson winning in straight sets. A lot has changed since then, with Anderson coming around as a top ten ATP player and developing a strong game alongside his serve, which has seen him qualify for two Grand Slam finals.

Anderson Returns To Wimbledon Hoping to Repeat 2018 Heroic

Kevin Anderson had a phenomenal 2017 and 2018, qualifying for the US Open final in 2017, and Wimbledon in 2018. He will be remembered for coming back after being down two sets, to defeat Roger Federer in the quarter finals last year, before his epic semi-final win against John Inner.

Anderson also qualified for the year end ATP Tour Finals in London, where he was a semi-finalist.

However, his break into the top five of rankings late last year was soon to be followed by a recurring elbow injury that has seen him out of action for the majority of this year thus far. However, he is back close to full fitness reportedly, and will be looking forward to doing well again on the grass.

With a big serve and improved forehand and game to back it up, Anderson, if close to full health is definitely a factor to reckon with at Wimbledon.

Anderson although ranked eighth in the ATP rankings has benefitted from the Wimbledon seedings and is seeded fourth. He is pitted in the same half of the draw as Novak Djokovic and begins his campaign against Pierre-Hugues Herbert.

Herbert In Midst of Strong Singles Year

Pierre- Hugues Herbert has been successful on the doubles circuit winning the Career Grand Slam this year at the Australian Open with veteran Frenchman Nicolas Mahut. Since then, Herbert has focussed on his singles game and was ranked as high as number 36 in the world this February. He is currently ranked number 43.

He has been an ATP singles finalist on three occasions and is yet to win his first title. He was a finalist at Montpellier earlier this year, losing to Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the final. He has been a regular member of the French Davis Cup team as well.

Herbert has had a successful warm-up to Wimbledon on the grass courts, qualifying for the semi-finals at the Halle ATP 250 before losing to ultimate champion Roger Federer. He takes the ball early, makes large cuts and slices at the ball, taking time away from the opponent, and plays from the net plenty as well. Given his doubles success and strength at the net, he will be hoping to perform well on grass, and particularly at Wimbledon.

Anderson v Herbert Predictions & Tips

Herbert with his focus on the singles game, and maturing as a player has also come a long way in recent years and seen more success. What is crucial is how well Anderson has recovered from his elbow injury, given the focus on his serve. Expect a good contest, but if Anderson is close to full fitness, he should win this in straight sets.

Tip: Anderson to win 3-0: 8/11 (888Sport)
