Kiki Bertens v Taylor Townsend Head to Head

The two players have never met before on the tour.

Bertens Starts with an Imposing Win

In line with her sensational performance this season, Kiki Bertens kick-started her campaign in this year’s Wimbledon with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Mandy Minella. It was a match that saw the Dutch No. 1 dominate most of the games. She lost only one break point and committed just 12 unforced errors.

In the end, she sealed the win in an hour and eight minutes. With that win, Bertens is also 8-2 on grass this season. Most recently, she reached the semifinal in Eastbourne and the final in Libema Open.

She was pretty phenomenal on clay and hard courts as well, winning the Madrid Open and St. Petersburg Open. It is with the help of such performances that the Korea Open winner has won 35 matches so far, losing just 13.

Townsend, with a Challenging Task Ahead of Her

Considering Townsend’s performance in recent weeks, she has participated in only two competitions since the month of April. The first one was an ITF event in Bonita Springs where she was a quarterfinalist and the other was French Open, where she lost the opener to Garbine Muguruza.

The 22-year-old American hasn’t been that active, especially on grass. Despite a lack of momentum, however, Townsend managed to win her opener in London with absolute ease. She overpowered Evgeniya Rodina with 6-2, 6-3, in an hour and five minutes, with a first-service win rate of 83% and 24 impressive winners.

That win alone should be of some concern to Bertens, who has a history of incurring shocking defeats. With a strong left forehand, Townsend can more than make things troublesome for the Dutch, but the experience will be at play too.

Bertens v Townsend Predictions & Tips

On paper, Bertens will start as the favourite to win and will be expected to seal the victory in straight sets. But Townsend is a fierce opponent and will not go down without a fight. At the end of the day, however, Bertens should prevail, given her form and momentum on the grass.

Tip: Bertens to win 2-0. (888Sport)
