Elina Svitolina v Petra Martic Head to Head

Svitolina leads Martic by 3-1, with all of their meetings taking place on the clay courts. They last met in the 2018 Italian Open, where Svitolina prevailed with 6-1, 6-2.

Svitolina, Slowly Finding her Groove

On the back of a rather unexciting spell in the last few weeks, Svitolina is particularly determined to make amends for her poor form and get herself back to her winning ways.

Coming in a tournament where she has never made it past the fourth round, the Ukranian is certainly on the right path to breaking that personal record. Starting with comfortable wins against Daria Gavrilova and Margarita Gasparyan, she met Maria Sakkari in the third round.

It was against Sakkari that she faced a lot of problems, reminiscent of her disappointing spells in Eastbourne and Birmingham. However, Svitolina, currently ranked at the No. 8 position, handled that challenge superbly and reminded us why she is a top 10 player. In two hours and seven minutes, she won the match with 6-3, 6-7(1), 6-2.

That was a much-needed win by the current WTA Finals champion, who last reached the fourth round on the tour in Indian Wells this season.

Martic, Looking for Another Big Run

While Petra Martic has been a part of the WTA Tour for quite a while now, it wasn’t until her run in the French Open this season that she rose to prominence. Shortly after winning the Istanbul Cup, Martic reached the quarterfinal in Madrid and the French Open, defeating the likes of Karolina Pliskova, Angelique Kerber, and Donna Vekic.

Thanks to these runs, she achieved her career-best singles ranking as World No. 24. More impressively, she continued to play in the same vein on grass too. The 28-year-old Croat reached the semifinal in Birmingham – a result far better than Svitolina’s.

With this kind of momentum, it isn’t surprising to see her ace the Wimbledon matches. She defeated Jennifer Brady and Anastasia Potapova with the exact same score – 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, before moving past Danielle Collins. Of course, Martic also benefitted from a slightly easy draw.

Svitolina v Martic Predictions & Tips

On any other day, we’d peg Svitolina as the overwhelming favourite to win but Martic has already proven that she isn’t a player to be taken lightly. Plus, given the Ukranian’s involuntary proclivity to fall to the underdogs, the Croat may very well win here. All in all, this will be a fiercely contested tie that can very well go either way.

Tip: Three sets in the match. (888Sport)
