John Isner v Kamil Majchrzak Head to Head

This will be a first meeting between Isner and Majchrzak.

Lack Of Matches Cost Isner Dear At Wimbledon

Three-time Hall Of Fame Tennis Open champion John Isner will return to his happy hunting ground as he aims to bounce back from the recent disappointment of a second round loss at Wimbledon at the hands of Mikhail Kukushkin. Being the only professional grass-court tournament held in North America, the International Hall Of Fame Open will feature defending champion Steve Johnson who lurks in Isner’s half of the draw.

Isner suffered a stress fracture in his left foot during his Miami Open final defeat to Roger Federer. He subsequently pulled out from the entire European clay-court swing to rehab. His lack of preparation for the grass swing showed at Wimbledon as the tall American elected not to play any warm-up events before the showdown at SW19.

The 34-year-old returns to Newport for the ninth time in his career and he is still the top ranked American on tour at the moment despite missing a huge chunk of playing-time between Miami and Wimbledon. He owns a 19-5 record on these parts and he has claimed three of his 14 titles on the lawns of Rhode Island.

Majchrzak Not To Be Underestimated

Kamil Majchrzak famously ran Kei Nishikori close at the Australian Open earlier this year before losing to the Japanese in five sets (retired hurt trailing 3-0 in the fifth set). The 23-year-old Pole has spent a decent part of his 2019 campaign making his mark on the Challenger circuit where he has captured two titles along with a handful of semifinal and quarterfinal appearances.

Majchrzak is coming into this encounter on the back of a straight sets win over British wildcard Alastair Gray in the first round. He won an impressive 82% of first serve points and if he can maintain that figure against Isner he could surprise the American.

For Majchrzak though, he has not had any breakthrough on the main tour and he is largely a rookie at this level where he has barely competed.

Isner v Majchrzak Predictions & Tips

Despite lacking match fitness, Isner should be comfortable playing on the lawns of Newport where he is a three-time winner. If Isner’s serve and forehand are firing on all cylinders, it will be extremely difficult for the man from Poland to have a look in into the contest. Expect Isner to breeze at a canter.

Tip: Isner to win in straight sets: 11/10 (888Sport)
