Alexander Zverev v Federico Delbonis Head To Head

The two players have met once on the ATP tour, earlier this year in the semi-finals of the ATP 250 in Geneva. It was also on clay, and Zverev won in a deciding set.

Zverev Off to Strong Start in Hamburg

Alexander Zverev was tipped as the possible leader of the pack among the ‘Next Gen’ of players earmarked to take over the mantle from Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic.

The German ‘Next Gen’ star has had a disappointing 2019 thus with a string of early round defeats, and only one title for the year, at the ATP 250 in Geneva on clay. With a quarter final loss at the French Open to Novak Djokovic, it seemed like the German was getting back in form.

However, the grass swing to follow was not encouraging for Zverev’ s hopes, with early round losses at Stuttgart and Halle, and a first round loss at Wimbledon.

Zverev is the number two seed at Hamburg, where he returns after four years. In a much anticipated and potentially tricky first round encounter, he was in fine form against Chilean Nicolas Jarry dispatching him in straight sets, serving well and exhibiting a strong return of serve.

Delbonis Up Against Challenge

Hard-hitting Argentine left hander Federico Delbonis arrived on the ATP circuit in 2013, and made news almost immediately defeating Swiss star Roger Federer in the semi-finals of the German Open. The Argentine was expectedly one to watch out for, but despite some good results, has never managed to be consistent with his performance and results.

He was ranked as high as number 33 in the world in 2016, winning two ATP titles in the same year. However, the levels attained in 2016 were not to be repeated in 2017 and 2018, with Delbonis dropping out of the top 100 and primarily playing ATP challenger titles.

A clay court specialist with a lot of promise, Delbonis has not lived up to his potential and is currently ranked number 70 in the world.

The Argentinian had a difficult opening encounter against Italian clay courter Marco Cecchinato, which he won in three sets.

Alexander Zverev v Federico Delbonis Predictions & Tips

Both Zverev and Delbonis are coming off encouraging first round wins. The last time they met this year, they seemed to be evenly matched, with the contest going down to the wire.

However, the German looked very confident with his entire array of strokes against Jarry in the first round and will definitely start as a favorite at home.

A tight contest on the cards with Zverev winning in two well-fought sets seems to be the most likely outcome.
