Dominic Thiem v Andrey Rublev Head To Head

The two players have met twice on the ATP tour, with Thiem winning on both occasions.

They met at the indoor hard courts in Vienna in 2017, with Thiem winning in straight sets and then again last year at the Monte Carlo Masters 1000 which Thiem won in a decider.

Thiem Looking at a Title Run in Hamburg

French Open finalist Dominic Thiem has looked sharp upon his return to clay at Hamburg, after a disappointing Wimbledon. The Austrian is yet to drop a set, in two very convincing victories over Pablo Cuevas and Marton Fucsovics.

Thiem has had a strong clay court season, winning the Barcelona ATP 500 and was a finalist at the French Open, after an epic semifinal victory against world number one Novak Djokovic. He also won his first ATP Masters 1000 earlier this year, on the hard courts of Indian Wells.

The world number four comes to Hamburg as a strong favorite, and has now qualified for successive quarter-finals. His next opponent is young Russian Andrey Rublev.

Resurgent Rublev In Good Form

21-year-old hard hitting Russian Andrey Rublev had a breakthrough year in 2017, winning his first ATP title at the Croatia Open, qualifying for the US Open quarter-finals and being a finalist at the Next Generation ATP finals in Milan.

Rublev reached a career-high ranking of 31 in early 2018. However, a back injury saw him out of action for most of 2018 and his return to the tour has been challenging. He is currently ranked number 70th.

The Russian, in recent weeks has increasingly looked like being back to his old self and has had two encouraging victories here at Hamburg, beating upcoming clay court specialist Chilean Cristian Garin and ‘Next Gen’ Casper Ruud from Norway

An offensive baseliner with a big forehand, and a consistent backhand, Rublev has been deploying his running forehand that can be particularly lethal.

Dominic Thiem v Andrey Rublev Predictions & Tips

Both players have been in good form and are strong on clay, with powerful groundstrokes from the baseline.

While Thiem has been in excellent clay court form all year, Rublev is on the return from injury and poor form, but continues to look sharper with each match. On current form, however, one would not pick against Thiem on clay, unless his opponent is Rafael Nadal.

A fun match on the cards, with some great hitting and Thiem to win in two tight sets.

Tip: Thiem to win 2-0: 5/6 (888Sport)
