Nikoloz Basilashvili v Andrey Rublev Head To Head

The two players have met once on the ATP tour earlier this year on the hard courts in Doha at the ATP 250. Basilashvili won that in straight sets.

Defending Champion Basilashvili Wins Epic Semi-Final

Hard-hitting Georgian Nikoloz Basilashvili had a breakthrough 2018 winning two titles, both ATP 500s at Hamburg and Beijing, and in turn becoming the first ever Georgian player to win an ATP title.

Basilashvili was a qualifier at the Hamburg Open last year and went on to win the tournament, and is definitely familiar with the crowds, courts and conditions.

He broke into the top 20 of the ATP rankings by year-end 2018 and is currently ranked a career high world number 16.

Basilashvili won an epic semi-final against home boy and number two seed Alexander Zverev. The Georgian was up a set and a break before the German came back to win the second set and tie the match.

In the decider, Basilashvili was up a break and led 3-0 before being broken twice and being down 3-5. He fought back to take it into the tiebreak which Zverev lead 5-2 before the Georgian won five straight points to close the match.

Resurgent Rublev Looking at a Title

21-year-old hard hitting Russian Andrey Rublev had a breakthrough year in 2017, winning his first ATP title at the Croatia Open, qualifying for the US Open quarter-finals and being a finalist at the Next Generation ATP finals in Milan.

A back injury saw him out of action for most of 2018 and drop from a career high ranking of 31 to world number 70 at the moment.

The Russian, in recent weeks has increasingly looked like being back to his old self.

Rublev has had a great tournament defeating Dominic Thiem and coming down from a set and a break down to defeat Spanish clay court specialist Pablo Carreno Busta in three sets.

Nikoloz Basilashvili v Andrey Rublev Predictions & Tips

Both players have played some very good tennis to get to this stage. While neither features as frontrunners in the ‘Next Gen’ conversations at the moment, both have what it takes to challenge the very best on the circuit.

This will be a close match and will likely be down to who plays the key points better. Being the defending champion, Basilashvili may start as a slight favorite, but there is no reason why Rublev cannot win the match either.

A spectacular final with Basilashvili winning another ATP 500, in three sets.

Tip: Basilashvili to win in three sets: 3/1 (888Sport)
