Dominic Thiem v Pablo Andujar Head to Head

The two players have met twice on the ATP tour, with Thiem winning on both occasions. Both meetings were on the clay in Rio de Janiero, once in 2016 and once in 2018.

Can Thiem Continue His Hold Over His Opponent?

French Open finalist Dominic Thiem returns to Kitzbuhel again, in search of a maiden Austrian Open title. The number one seed began his campaign with a 6-3,6-2 win over countryman Sebastian Ofner.

After a disappointing Wimbledon, Thiem looked sharp upon his return to clay at Hamburg last week, before losing to Russian Andrey Rublev in two tiebreaks.

Thiem has had a strong clay court season, winning the Barcelona ATP 500 and was a finalist at the French Open, after an epic semifinal victory against world number one Novak Djokovic. He also won his first ATP Masters 1000 earlier this year, on the hard courts of Indian Wells.

Although Thiem remains a strong favorite at the tournament, he has never won the title, despite playing every year since 2014.

Veteran Andujar Off to a Good Start

Spanish veteran Pablo Andujar has been on the circuit for more than a decade and was ranked as high as number 32 in the world, in 2015. A clay court specialist with strong skills at the baseline, the Spaniard has not lived up to his potential over extended periods of time, and is currently ranked 80th in the world.

After a disappointing Australian Open earlier this year, Andujar spoke about having thoughts of retirement, but has been a regular feature on the clay since. Andujar has won four ATP singles titles in his career and all on the clay, three in Morocco and one at the Swiss Open.

He has had a good week thus far at Kitzbuhel defeating Leonardo Mayer and Philipp Kohlschreiber.

Dominic Thiem v Pablo Andujar Predictions & Tips

Both players are most at home on clay, and have been in good form. While Thiem has had a phenomenal year on clay, Andujar has had two very convincing and confidence boosting wins already this week at Kitzbuhel.

Andujar has the tools to challenge the best on clay, but Thiem is the second best player on the surface today after Rafael Nadal, and it is unlikely that he will be troubled much.

A good match on the cards with some good baseline rallies, with Thiem winning in two tight sets.

Tip: Thiem to win in two sets: 11/20 (888Sport)
