Stefanos Tsitsipas v Benoit Paire Head to Head

The two players have met once on the ATP circuit, in 2017 on the indoor hart courts at Metz, in France. French native Paire won that match in straight sets. The Greek sensation, Tsitsipas, has since evolved as a player breaking into the top ten of the ATP world rankings.

Tsitsipas Eyeing Title Run in DC

21-year-old Stefanos Tsitsipas has had two straight set wins thus far, against American Tommy Paul and Australian Jordan Thompson. However, he was made to work hard in both matches, with some difficult moments, but was able to come out unscathed.

Prior to a disappointing grass court swing which included a second round loss at the Queen’s Club ATP 500 and a first round loss at Wimbledon, Tsitsipas had been in sensational form for the first half of the year.

Currently ranked number six in the world on the ATP circuit, he remains well on course for a first appearance at the year-end ATP Tour finals, exactly a year after he won the ATP Under 21 Tour Finals in Milan.

With a strong serve, powerful groundstrokes on either wing, an elegant single handed backhand, and good court coverage, the top seed at the Citi Open, will be looking for a smooth quarter-final victory ahead of more difficult challenges against the likes of Nick Kyrgios, Daniil Medvedev, Marin Cilic and others.

Unpredictable Paire in Good Form

Flashy, inconsistent and unpredictable are some of the words that one associates with French veteran Benoit Paire.

Paire has been on the ATP tour for more than a decade, and ranked as high as number 18 in January 2016. However, lack of consistency has been an issue throughout his career, and has often been ranked just within the top 100 or even outside the top 100.

The Frenchman is currently ranked number 28th in the world. Incidentally, despite being on the tour for more than a decade, he has only won three ATP singles titles, two of which were won earlier this year in Morocco and Lyon on clay.

Paire plays a variety of high-risk shots, and trick shots that do not always bode well for the scoreboard at the end. The Frenchman had an impressive third round showing at the Citi Open, defeating American number one John Isner in straight sets.

Stefanos Tsitsipas v Benoit Paire Predictions & Tips

Although Tsitsipas may start as a bookmaker’s favorite, this is a match to look forward to, and one that can get very exciting.

The Greek has looked good this week and is expected to perform at a solid level. What always remains to be seen is which version of Paire shows up on the given day.

Paire has the game and the confidence to push Tsitsipas all the way, and it would not be a surprise if he won the match either.

Tsitsipas is gradually increasing in confidence on the hard courts and can be expected to be at a strong level here on.

An exciting battle on the cards, and hard to pick a winner. Expect Tsitsipas to win in a three set tussle amidst plenty excitement.

Tip: Three sets in the match: 5/6 (888Sport)
