Amanda Anisimova v Saisai Zheng Head to Head

The two ladies met in the WTA Hiroshima last season, where Anisimova sailed to clinical victory with 6-1, 6-1.

Anisimova, Looking Dangerous

Anisimova, at just 17 years of age, has already achieved a lot more than what many can only imagine. Currently ranked World No. 23, she recently became the youngest semifinalist in the French Open in over a decade. She achieved that feat after knocking out some heavy guns like Aryna Sabalenka and Simona Halep.

Earlier this season, she also won the maiden title of her career in Bogota. Clearly, all the signs point towards the fact that she is an emerging force on the tour, set to take the circuit by the storm. Of course, she still has to iron out the wrinkles, but that will obviously come with experience and time as she grows into a superior player.

In San Jose, she has done just that, playing with a certain level of maturity of confidence. With a bye into the second round as the fourth seed, she started off with a straight-set win over Madison Brengle.

Apart from this, Anisimova has also been a quarterfinalist in WTA Auckland and Mallorca.

Zheng with a Defining Run

The 25-year-old Zheng will be pleased with her performance so far in San Jose. Since the Madrid Open, the Chinese player featured in six tournaments and managed to win only one match – the opener in WTA Strasbourg.

To put it differently, Zheng went without a win on the tour in her last four appearances on the tour before finally having a breakthrough in the Silicon Valley Classic. In fact, most of her season has been along the same lines, barring a couple of quarterfinal feats in Hua Hin and Acapulco. She was also the winner of the 125K Series event in Anning.

Here in San Jose, things started off shaky for her as she lost in the first round to Danielle Collins in a three-set thriller. However, Zheng got another chance in the second when Collins’ opponent withdrew from the event. This is where the Chinese avenged her defeat in straight sets and got herself a ticket to the quarterfinal.

Anisimova v Zheng Prediction & Tips

Expect this to be a fierce game between two talented players. However, Anisimova will definitely start this one as the favourite on the back of her recent form and her opponent’s poor streak in the past few weeks.

Tip: Over 16.5 games in the match. (888Sport)
