Novak Djokovic v David Goffin Head to Head
The pair have played each other seven times before, with Djokovic leading their head-to-head series by six matches to one. The only time that Goffin beat the Serb was at the Monte Carlo Masters in 2017. Djokovic has won all their other encounters, including their last meeting in the quarter-finals at Wimbledon, where the Belgian only managed to win six games in the entire three set match.
Djokovic’s Injury Concerns Behind Him
Djokovic has won 75 senior career titles in his career, and his relentless march towards his 76th in Tokyo shows no sign of slowing down.
He has barely broken sweat this week, beginning with a straight sets win over the Australian Alexei Popyrin in the first round, followed by another comfortable win over local favourite, Go Soeda, in the second. He then disposed of the challenge of the number five seed, Lucas Pouille, in imperious fashion in their quarter-final on Friday, dropping just three games to the Frenchman.
One of the concerns of the world number one coming into this tournament was how well his shoulder would hold up after the injury that forced him to retire from the US Open. Based on the evidence so far, the answer is that all appears well, ahead of the Masters Series events and ATP finals to come.

Goffin scarcely had to work harder than Djokovic in his quarter-final, beating Hyeon Chung of South Korea in straight sets, and conceding just four games in the process.
That was in contrast to his first round match with the Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta, where he conceded the first set, and was just a few points from defeat, before clinching the set on a tie-break and going on to close out the match. And, although he beat Denis Shapovalov of Canada in the second round in straight sets, he needed two tie breaks to do so.
However, reaching the semi-final here is more evidence of the late season form that he has discovered, which began by reaching the final in Halle, and then was followed by that quarter-final at Wimbledon. And then he reached the final in Cincinnati, the first time he had done so at a Masters event.
His next challenge is to start to win some of these tournaments, so he can add to his haul of 4 career titles.
Djokovic v Goffin Predictions & Tips
Djokovic is the overwhelming favourite to win this match at 7/50, whilst Goffin is priced at 103/20. The Belgian has a very poor record against the world number one, and, unless Djokovic suffers a sudden recurrence of his shoulder injury on Saturday, it is hard to see how that is going to change this time round.
