Casper Ruud v Alejandro Davidovich Fokina Predictions & Preview

This will be the first time that Casper Ruud and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina will be facing off in a match, with both players in a near must-win situation. That’s after Ruud was sent packing in three sets in this best-of-five tournament and Fokina lasted four but went down to Alex de Minaur.

Both made it to the main draw of this competition through some sterling performances all year, but Ruud’s showing came in a lot of tournaments on clay while Fokina, who is ranked 31 places behind his opponent did well on hard court but at the Challenger level.

As a result we think this could last the distance, with four or even five sets expected in the match.

Alex de Minaur v Miomir Kecmanovic Predictions & Preview

This will also be the first match between Alex de Minaur and Miomir Kecmanovic and the Aussie de Minaur starts off as an easy favourite. Ranked 18th in the world, de Minaur has had a brilliant year, winning three titles, all of which came on the hard court surfaces around the world.

More recently he also reached the final at the Basel Open indoors, before going down to Roger Federer but all of this has meant he will finish the year at his career-best 18th rank in the world. And he will be up against a 60th-ranked player who has had a 39-31 win-loss record this year with just one appearance at the semifinal stage of any tournament.

Easy pick then, de Minaur to win this in three or four sets to record his second victory.

Frances Tiafoe v Ugo Humbert Predictions & Preview

A third, first meeting between players today. Frances Tiafoe of USA and France’s Ugo Humbert have never played each other before, and both are coming off defeats in their first match. That implies a defeat for either player in this match will make it nearly impossible for them to qualify for the next stage while a victory will give them hope.

Tiafoe went down to Jannik Sinner in four sets in his opener, while Humbert’s loss to Mikael Ymer came in the same manner too, leaving both these opponents for this encounter in a jam.

The American has had a poor 2019, with a 21-29 win-loss record after having shown some sparkle last year. He will be up against a player who has won 44 to his 29 defeats, but to be fair a lot of his wins have come at the lower level, with three Challenger title victories to his name as well.

Still, expecting the 55th-ranked Humbert to edge past Tiafoe, who had risen to 29th at one point but is now ranked 47th in the world.

Mikael Ymer v Jannik Sinner Predictions & Preview

73rd-ranked Swede Mikael Ymer will be up against Italy’s 18-year-old and 95th-ranked Jannik Sinner after both registered four-set wins in their opening encounter. And very much like the previous three encounters of the day, these two will also be playing for the first time in their careers.

Ymer is currently at his career-best ranking of 73rd in the world, having won 54 and lost 18 of the matches he’s played this year, with four titles in the season. All the wins came at the Challenger level, but two of them came as recently as the last month and that should give him a lot of confidence.

Sinner’s record, incidentally, isn’t too different with four Challenger tournament victories as well, but his top performances have been on clay. He did make the semifinal at Antwerp, his best ever showing at an ATP 500 competition which makes him a favourite in this one.
