De Minaur Asserted His Authority Against Kecmanovic
Having suffered a fright in his first match against the Spaniard, and outsider, Alejandro Davidoff Fokina, dropping the second set to the Spaniard, and falling a break behind in the third, de Minaur was in a much less generous mood on Wednesday against the world number 60, Miomir Kecmanovic of Serbia.
He took the first set for the loss of just one game, and although the second was tighter, going to a tie-break, the Australian forced a mini-break and consolidated it to establish a two set advantage.
The Serb briefly threatened a comeback when he took the third set, but the Australian responded in style, clinching the fourth, and the match, without conceding another game.

Having lost his first match to Kecmanovic on Tuesday, Ruud’s game with Davidoff-Fokina was a must-win encounter for both men, and the Norwegian will have been glad to have emerged victorious, although his win was very hard fought.
The first two sets went to tie-breaks, the first of which he lost, and the second which he won, and when he clinched the third set, he would have thought he had victory in his grasp. The Spaniard had other thoughts, however, and levelled the match, after yet another tie-break. However, Ruud found an extra gear in the deciding set, and closed it out to love.

De Minaur is the odds-on favourite to win this match at 17/50, whilst Ruud is priced at 4/1. Whilst the Australian can still lose this match and qualify for the semi-finals, he has every incentive to beat the Norwegian because the amount of prize money on offer at the end of the week goes up considerably if a player remains unbeaten. Ruud for his part needs to beat the Australian and hope the result in the other Group A match goes his way.
