Daniil Medvedev v Stefanos Tsitsipas Head to Head

The pair have played each other five times before, and the Russian has won each time, including their two matches in 2019, in the Masters’ events in Monte Carlo and Shanghai.

Medvedev, Player of the Year?

If prizes were to be handed out for Player of the Year, then Medvedev would surely be one of the favourites after a year which saw him win four titles, including the Masters’ Series events in Cincinnati and Shanghai, and reach a further five finals, including the Rogers Cup in Montreal, and his maiden appearance at that stage in a Grand Slam event, the US Open, where he pushed Rafael Nadal very close.

That form has catapulted him up the rankings, from just inside the top twenty at the start of the year to his current standing of four in the world, and the 23 year old is now regarded by many commentators as the man most likely to break the stranglehold of the “Big Three” on Grand Slam titles in 2020.

He did fall earlier in the last tournament he participated in at Paris but if anything that should make him hungrier to come back stronger at his maiden ATP Finals.

What a Difference a Year’s Made to Tsitsipas

This time last year, Tsitsipas was competing in, and winning, the Next Gen ATP finals in Milan. It is a measure of the progress that the 21 year old has made in the intervening twelve months that he once again finds himself competing for an end of season tournament, this time amongst players on the senior tour.

This year he has won two tournaments, in Marseille and Estoril, and reached a further three finals – in Dubai, Madrid and Beijing. He also reached his first ever Grand Slam semi-final in Melbourne.

He did endure a mid-season slump, suffering first round defeats at Wimbledon and Flushing Meadows, but regained his form again towards the end of the season.

Medvedev v Tsitsipas Predictions & Tips

Medvedev is the odds-on favourite to win this match at 5/12, whilst Tsitsipas is priced at 21/10. Given that the Russian has won all their previous matches, including their two matches this year,  and he now rarely loses, it will be a surprise if the Greek chooses this occasion to record his first head-to-head victory.

Tip: Medvedev to win in straight sets: 10/11 (Click here to get these odds with Unibet)
