The WTA Elite Trophy is a top level tournament held right before the WTA Finals.It is the second tier year end tournament on the WTA Tour. The schedule for the 2021 edition of the WTA Elite Trophy will be released soon after the 2020 edition was cancelled because of the pandemic.
The 2019 edition of the competition kicked off on October 21 and went on till October 27. The matches were played at the Hengqin International Tennis Center in Zhuhai, China.

What Happened at the 2019 WTA Elite Trophy?
The fourth seeded Aryna Sabalenka lived up to her billing as she went on to add another feather to her crown by defeating Kiki Bertens in the final 6-4, 6-2 to win the title.
Sabalenka had earlier overcome Karolina Muchova and Bertens had defeated Zheng Saisai in the semifinal to enter the title-decider.
Some of the players who failed to make it beyond their group despite being the favourites, included Sofia Kenin who fell to Muchova and Madison Keys, who was edged out by Zheng.
Ashleigh Barty ended her second Top 20 year with a bang in 2018, claiming the third title of her career with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Wang Qiang in final of the Hengqin Life WTA Elite Trophy Zhuhai. It was her biggest win until her eventual triumph at the Rolland Garros earlier this year. She was in a fine form after defeating the reigning champion Julia Görges in the semi finals, she has her eye on the prize.
The Chinese number one, Wang did put up a fight as she was playing her fourth WTA final in as many months. The 26-year-old began to avoid the Barty surge and managed to win three games successively. In the end it was all very overwhelming for her and Barty took complete control over the game and finished it in straight sets.
