Player List for 2020 WTA St. Petersburg

The tournament organisers are yet to confirm and release the list of players who would take part in the WTA St. Petersburg Open this coming season but what we can expect is some of the top players to be a part much like last time. Here’s the list of all the seeded players who had played last year at the St. Petersburg Open.

Women’s Singles

Petra Kvitova, Kiki Bertens, Aryna Sabalenka, Jelena Ostapenko, Julia Goerges, Dominika Cibulkova, Donna Vekic, Daria Kasatkina.

What Happened at the 2019 WTA St. Petersburg Open?

Kiki Bertens won the 2019 edition of the WTA St. Petersburg Ladies Trophy when she overcame Donna Vekic in the final of the competition in straight sets. Bertens had earlier sent out Aryna Sabalenka, the fourth seed in the semifinals, winning in straight sets too and Vekic overcame Vera Zvonareva to make it to the final.

Petra Kvitova won the title last year at St. Petersburg Open, beating the defending champion Kristina Mladenovic of France. She had it rather easy in the final, winning 6-1, 6-2 to clinch the trophy and become the first left-handed women’s player to have won a title in the country.

Also featuring in the previous edition of the tournament was Caroline Wozniacki, who was the top seed and had only recently won the first major of the year and her first ever Grand Slam too in Melbourne. She had a first round bye and showed continuing form from the Australian Open when she defeated Anastasia Potapova 6-0, 6-1 in round two.

However, Daria Kasatkina sent her packing in the round of eight to make it to the semi-finals. Second seeded Jelena Ostapenko also crashed out in the quarter-finals to Kvitova after having eased past Vera Zvonareva in round two.
