Marc Polmans v Dane Sweeny Head to Head
While they have never faced off in a competitive match before this, there have been three meetings between these two players on the lower circuits and Sweeny leads 2-1. Two of them came in 2023 itself and it’s 1-1 there.

Polmans Drops Just Five Games in Qualifiers
Having fallen to 152nd in the world, Polmans’ direct entries into ATP tournaments at the highest level have dried up. So much so that he hasn’t played in the main draw of any ATP tournament before this and even to get to the first round here, he was forced to feature in the qualifiers.
The good news for Polmans is that the former world number 116 managed to make it through with successive straight set wins. In the first qualifier, he dropped just two games and in the second he lost three, with a bagel in each of them coming to the fore as well.
Where Polmans also has some form going his way is his performance in a Challenger tournament in Guangzhou where he reached the final.
He will start off a favourite as a result of those victories in the lead-up to this opener with bet365 offering 2/5 for that.

Sweeny Makes Fighting Entry in Main Draw
Much like Polmans, fellow Aussie Sweeny has also not featured in the main draw of any ATP tournament this season. In fact his overall career record at that level is 1-1 on win-loss, signalling how rare this occasion is for him.
And he almost never got to the main draw.
That’s because in both his qualifying wins, Sweeny was forced to make a comeback from being a set down to clinch a victory. Unlike Polmans, his wins have been hard-earned despite having gone into both those matches as a favourite.
Starting out here in a rare main draw match, Sweeny is a 7/4 underdog with bet365, which seems to be par for the course given his recent record.
Polmans v Sweeny Prediction and Tip
This looks to be a straightforward one as Polmans starts off as our favourite too but Sweeny has shown he can put up a fight. Might still not go to a third set.
Tips:
- Low Risk Tip: Sweeny to win: 2/5 (with bet365)
- Moderate Risk Tip: Sweeny to win in straight sets: 1/1 (with bet365)
