Arantxa Rus v Kamilla Rakhimova Preview & Prediction

World no. 47 Arantxa rus will take on world no. 75 Kamilla Rakhimova in the opener. It will be their second meeting, following Rakhimova’s win in three sets in Lausanne in 2021.

The left-handed Rus is 52-16 across levels this season, but she has lost the last four matches that she has played, which includes first round exits from Chicago 125, the US Open and Guadalajara-2.

Rus won her maiden WTA titke in Hamburg in what was her first ever WTA final. She also won two WTA 125 titles in La Bisbal and Contrexéville Open and won two ITF titles from three finals. But most of her wins (43 of the 53 wins) have come on clay, so she has barely been a threat on other surfaces.

Her opponent Rakhimova has lacked consistency, but brings good form into the tournament. The Russian, ranked no. 75th in the world, was recently a finalist in Stanford 125, and a quarterfinalist in Chicago 125.

She however fell in the first round of the US Open. Rakhimova has not done well in the tour level events and a 7-11 season record is a testament to that. Can she shock Rus and extend her perfect record against the Dutch woman?

Arantxa Rus v Kamilla Rakhimova Tip

This is going to be a close contest as there is little to choose between the two. While Rus has been highly successful this year across levels, she has played the majority of her matches on clay. On hard courts, Rakhimova has the better record.  Three sets in the match: 6/5 (bet365)

Tamara Korpatsch v Jodie Anna Burrage Preview & Prediction

World no. 78 Tamara Korpatsch of Germany will meet world no. 91 Jodie Burrage of Britain in the first round on Tuesday.

Korpatsch’s best this year saw her reach the semifinals in Prague. She also reached the semifinal of Valencia 125, but hasn’t done much in other tournaments.

The lefty has won just one main draw match in her past three tournaments. That win came in the opening round at the US Open.

Burrage meanwhile is 28-20 across levels this year. The Briton, ranked no. 91, reached her maiden WTA final in Nottingham this year. She also featured in two ITF finals, winning in 23 Open de Seine-et-Marne, France; and finishing runner-up in Canberra.

Burrage qualified for the main draw with a come-from-behind win over Jana Kolodynska in the second qualifying round on Sunday. She had beaten China’s Lu Jiajing 6-4, 6-1 in the first qualifying round on Saturday.

Tamara Korpatsch v Jodie Anna Burrage Tip

It will be a tough contest with Burrage edging through: 4/6 (bet365)

Diana Shnaider v Zhuoxuan Bai Preview & Prediction

Diana Shnaider is 16-16 across levels this year. The world no. 83’s significant results this year include a semifinal finish in Hamburg and a run to the second rounds at the Australian Open and the French Open.

The left-handed Russian has not been in particularly good form recently. She lost in the first round of Stanford 125, failed to go past the qualifiers at the US Open and lost in the first round in Osaka. However, last week, she won her first round match in Guangzhou, only to fall in the round of 16.

Facing Shnaider is  Zhuoxuan Bai, who defeated Elizabeth Mandlik 7-5, 6-4 to qualify for the main draw on Sunday.

The Chinese, world no. 129, has a 42-18 record across levels this year, and that includes two ITF titles from four finals.

Bai, who had beaten Yao Xinxin 7-6, 6-0 in the first qualifying round, had reached the second round at Wimbledon this year. She was also in the round fo 16 in Guangzhou last week.

Diana Shnaider v Zhuoxuan Bai Tip

This will be an interesting matchup. Shnaider has played far fewer matches than her Bai, but against better opponents. Bai on the other hand has collected far more wins than Shnaider this year.

Three sets in the match: 5/6 (bet365)

Katerina Siniakova v Elizabeth Mandlik Preview & Prediction

It will be a first meeting between Siniakova and Mandlik. The former has not won a match since July 3, when she won her opening round match at Wimbledon.

So currently, the world np. 90 Siniakova is on a seven-match losing streak, across levels. Just before the slump began, the 27-year-old Czech had won her fourth WTA singles title and the only one of the season in Bad Homburg.

She was also a semifinalist in Merida, but has failed to deliver in the other tournaments, often falling in the first round.

Can she end her losing streak against Mandlik? The American has made it to the main draw as a lucky loser.

While she demolished Olivia Tjandramulia 6-1, 6-0 in the first qualifying round, she was beaten 7-5, 6-4 by Zhuoxuan Bai in the second qualifying round.

Mandlik also lost the second qualifying round in Guangzhou last week, and wasn’t lucky enough to make the main draw. She had in fact gone from the qualifying round to the quarterfinals in Osaka.

She was also a quarterfinalist in Nottingham and finished runner-up in the WTA 125 in Reus. She has won a lot more singles matches than the doubles no. 1 and could start off with a win.

Katerina Siniakova v Elizabeth Mandlik Tip

Given their recent forms, Mandlik is a slight favourite.

Mandlik to win: 4/5 (bet365)
