Dominic Thiem v Tommy Paul Head to Head
Thiem and Paul have never met so far in their careers, which is logical as Thiem is an ATP Tour mainstay for the last five years while the 22-year-old Paul played most of this tennis up to this point on the Challengers and Futures which took place on the North American continent.
Both players are versatile when it comes to surfaces but both have the highest winning percentages on clay, with Thiem having a 74% win rate on clay from 285 matches (210-75) and Paul 70% from 135 matches (94-41).
Thiem Looking for another Big Performance in Paris
Last year Thiem lost in French Open finals to Nadal and in the previous two in the semifinals, to Nadal and Djokovic, failing to win a single set in those big matches.
He will try to be better when those deciding matches come and show that he can beat those two veterans, who are once again the top contenders for the title, ahead of Thiem who is the third favourite to lift the trophy.
Thiem had 11 wins from 16 clay matches so far this year, managing to win the title in Barcelona but has lost last week in the Rome Masters opening round to Verdasco.
First Grand Slam Main Draw Appearance for Paul Outside the US Open
Paul has played great on the American clay this year, managing to win 11 of 13 matches on it (also withdrew once pre-match) and this brought him the USTA Wild Card for this tournament.
He had only two matches on the European red clay this year, both in the ATP Geneva qualifiers last weekend and he managed to beat Robert 6-4, 7-5 but has lost 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 to Dzumhur after that.
Paul isn’t too experienced on the red clay and that will be a big problem for him against the third-best active clay-courter Thiem.
Dominic Thiem v Tommy Paul Predictions & Tips
It is easy to like the level of effort Paul shows in every match and love the way his skill-set has developed in the last few years but it is tough to see him making any problems to Thiem, who is on a mission to get into the final stages of this tournament; have to back the Austrian to win easily.
