Konta Looking to Build on Her Recent Success
Konta started the year on an uneventful note with a series of disappointing exits in big events. However, the British No. 1 has turned all of it around following a remarkable run on the clay courts.
Currently ranked World No. 18, Konta arrived in Birmingham after reaching the final in Rabat and Rome, and the semifinal in the French Open. Over the course of May, she defeated some big names like Kiki Bertens, Venus Williams, and Sloane Stephens to reassert herself on the tour.

Kontaveit Looking to Rebuild her Form
The young Estonian has had a pretty shaky year so far. Ranked just two places below Konta, she is yet to find some consistency on the tour. However, Kontaveit is a talented player by all means and has got herself a pretty solid resume to back it up.
Earlier this year, she reached the semifinal in the Miami Open and later, reached the final in Stuttgart. The 23-year-old defeated some big guns like Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, Victoria Azarenka, and Naomi Osaka in the process.
Last year, she reached the final in the Wuhan Open and since then, has been working really hard on the tour. She is a fierce competitor and can make things awkward for Konta in the Nature Valley Classic in Birmingham.

This is going to be an incredibly interesting match. While Konta will start as the odds-on favourite, she has her work cut out. Kontaveit is a strong player who can very well give the Brit a good run for her money.
