Alexander Zverev v Robin Haase Head to Head

The two players have met five times on the ATP circuit, with Zverev leading the head-to-head 3-2. They have never met on grass and four out of their five meetings have been on hard courts. Their most recent match was at the 2018 ATP 500 at Basel, which was won by Zverev, soon after losing to Haase at the Cincinnati Masters 1000 a few months prior.

Zverev Poor Run Rolls Over To Grass

Alexander Zverev is tipped as the possible leader of the pack among the ‘Next Gen’ of players earmarked to take over the mantle from Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic. With three Masters 1000 under his belt, as well as the ATP Tour Final winner in 2018, and ranked world number three at the time, Zverev was noted as one to look out for in 2019.

2019 has turned out to be a poor year for Zverev, who has had a string of disappointing early round losses after the Australian Open, through the hard court and clay season. After a quarterfinal performance at the French Open with a loss to Novak Djokovic, Zverev looked to be getting back to form and ready for the grass season.

A first round loss to Dustin Brown at the Stuttgart ATP 250 to begin the grass season was far from the ideal start to Zverev’s grass court season, who will be looking to an improved performance at Halle this week. His first round opponent at Halle is Dutch veteran Robin Haase.

Can Haase Further Zverev’s Drop In Form?

Dutch Robin Haase has been on the tour for most of the decade and performed well intermittently, though lacking in intensity. Haase was ranked as high as number 33 in the world in 2012, and is now ranked number 68. His ranking has fluctuated within the top 100, breaking into the top 50 a few times as a result of short spells of good results.

Haase, who has also been a regular doubles player, has a game that is well suited to the faster courts, given his natural volleying instincts and strong netplay. He will always be well remembered for being up two sets against Rafael Nadal at Wimbledon and then against Andy Murray at the US Open and failing to win either match.

Haase is a naturally gifted player capable of producing many spectacular shots. 2019 has not been a particularly impressive year for him and he will be looking to change that in the second half of the year, with the onset of the grass swing.

Alexander Zverev v Robin Haase Predictions & Tips

Haase has a powerful serve and strong groundstrokes that can put Zverev under pressure and Haase will look to take advantage of Zverev’s recent dip in form and confidence. A tight match on the cards, with Zverev desperately looking to get some positive results. Expect Zverev to win in three close sets.

Tip: Zverev in three sets: 7/4 (888Sport)
