Milos Raonic v Marco Cecchinato Head to Head

The two men have played each other three times before, each time on the Italian’s favourite surface of clay. Yet it has been Raonic who has won on each occasion, with their most recent meeting coming in the Monte Carlo Masters last year.

Raonic, Canadian’s Game Made for Grass

Raonic’s game is made for grass, and he vies with the likes of John Isner and Ivo Karlovic for the title of who has the most dominant serve on tour, holding  a career record between 2012 and 2018 of winning 91% of his service games.

His best year on grass came in 2016, when he reached the final here at Queen’s, and later at Wimbledon, only to be beaten by Andy Murray both times.

He got to the semi-finals at the Mercedes Open last week, but had to withdraw from that match with compatriot Felix Auger-Aliassime with a back injury.  He will, therefore, be hoping that a few days rest and recuperation will help him get back to peak physical condition ahead of the challenges to come on one of his favourite surfaces.

Cecchinato, First Grass Match of the Season

Cecchinato will be playing his first match of the season on grass, having not taken to the court in earnest since Roland Garros, where he suffered a shock first round defeat to French wildcard, Nicolas Mahut.

A clay court specialist, he had a bright start to the year, winning his third ATP singles career title in Buenos Aires, and notching up a quarter-final in Doha. However, apart from the Munich Open, where he got to the semi-finals, his form has been disappointing since then.

Grass, historically speaking, is not to his liking. He has entered the main draw at Wimbledon for the past two years, and lost first time out on each occasion.

Raonic v Cecchinato Predictions & Tips

Raonic is the odds-on favourite for this match at 4/17, whilst Cecchinato is priced at 77/19. This is a classic encounter between a big serving grass court specialist, and a man who is much happier on clay, and the Canadian should win easily.

Tip: Raonic to win in straight sets: 1/2 (888Sport)
