Kerber, Keen to Make Amends
The current Wimbledon champion has had a very disappointing spell over the last few weeks. In the Madrid Open, she lost in the second round to Petra Martic while in the French Open, she lost to the 18-year-old Russian Anastasia Potapova.
That shock loss to Potapova may have been a blessing in disguise for Kerber, given that she has had an ample amount of time to rest and prepare for the grass swing. Her win-loss record on grass is the best among all the surfaces at an impressive 72%.
Earlier this year, Kerber reached the semifinal in the WTA Monterrey and the final in the Indian Wells Open. She lost in both the cases and missed out on winning the first singles title of the season. Nonetheless, the 31-year-old is certainly a talented player and can quickly find her rhythm.
Bonaventure Qualifies for the Main Draw
Ysaline Bonaventure, the 24-year-old Belgian, made it to the main draw as a qualifier. It has been more or less the case for her through most of the season, where she had to start in the qualifying rounds.
She has done quite well in a few of them, most notably in Rabat where she reached the quarterfinal. Apart from that, Bonaventure also reached the round of 16 in St. Petersburg. As for her most recent performance, it took place in the Libema Open where she lost in the second round to Ekaterina Alexandrova.

Bonaventure is a player who is ranked in the early 100s while Kerber is currently World No. 6. This speaks scores about the difference in their forms although, the German will be careful of the Belgian. She wouldn’t want to fall prey to yet another shocking defeat. Given her massive experience, she should be able to win this one comfortably.
