Stefanos Tsitsipas v Kyle Edmund Head to Head
The two players have never met on the ATP circuit.
Tsitsipas Aiming For Grass Success Ahead of Wimbledon
Greek sensation Stefanos Tsitsipas has been in sensational form for the last 12 months, winning his first three ATP titles, qualifying for the Australian Open semi-finals, the final sixteen at the French Open and other impressive results.
He has recorded wins against Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal in this time frame as well. Currently ranked number six in the world on the ATP circuit, he is well on course for a first appearance at the year-end ATP Tour finals, exactly a year after he won the ATP Under 21 Tour Finals in Milan.
With a strong serve, powerful groundstrokes on either wing, an elegant single handed backhand, and good court coverage, he has evolved as a contender at all tournaments now. Tsitsipas’ grass swing did not get off to the best of starts with a first round loss to Chilean Nicolas Jarry in the second round of the Liberma Open, after a first round bye.
Having met with most of his successes after the 2018 grass court swing, it will be interesting to see how he performs on grass, given his surge up the rankings, from world number 35 then to number 6 now.
Home Boy Edmund Seeking Confidence Amidst Indifferent Form
British number one Kyle Edmund had a breakthrough year in 2018, with his first Grand Slam semi-final appearance among other accolades, and moving into the top 15 of the ATP rankings for the first time ever. His 2018 season ended early as a result of injury, leaving a lot of promise for 2019.
This season has not yet been the one that all British fans and Edmund hoped for, however. The first half of the year, has mostly been a mix of indifferent form, early losses and injury concerns, interspersed with some positives (victories). Edmund, who was ranked as high as number 14 on the tour late last year, is currently ranked number 30.
Edmund withdrew from his second round French Open match with a knee injury remains to be seen how match ready he is.
With a big serve and one of the most powerful forehands in the game, Edmund will be looking to the grass, hard court and indoor season for the rest of year to get back up the rankings, along with strong runs at upcoming tournaments. The British number one has lost at the first round at the Queen’s Club in the last two years, and will be looking to turn that record around imminently.
Stefanos Tsitsipas v Kyle Edmund Predictions & Tips
Edmund had a breakthrough 2018, before a dip in form this year, plagued by injuries. Tsitsipas on the other hand, has had a phenomenal last 12 months, reaching a career high ranking. The match will be a clash between two players with powerful groundstrokes and an effective service. Edmund is the home favorite, which brings crowd support and additional pressure too. Expect an even match on the cards, but Tsitsipas will be higher on confidence, given his superior form and results in the last few months. We can hope for some good shotmaking and rallies, with Tsitsipas winning in three sets.
Tip: Tsitsipas to win in three sets: 3/1 (888Sport)
