Belinda Bencic v Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova Head to Head
Bencic leads her Russian adversary by 2-1, last defeating her in St. Petersburg back in 2016. As for Pavlyuchenkova, her sole victory over the Swiss came in the 2015 WTA Washington.
Bencic, A Formidable Opponent on Grass
Belinda Bencic rose to prominence right here at Wimbledon when she reached won the tournament as a junior in 2013. Then, she reached the fourth round here a couple of times in 2015 and 2018. This time around, she looks primed to beat her previous records.
With every match, the 22-year-old is becoming stronger and wiser and this season has proven just that. Following a massive title drought, she won her first singles title since 2015 in Dubai, defeating Petra Kvitova in the final.
Later, Bencic also reached the semifinal in Indian Wells after defeating Naomi Osaka and Karolina Pliskova. In Mallorca – her first grass tournament – she reached the final after moving past Angelique Kerber.
With a win-loss record of 34-13, the Swiss is definitely in an imposing form.
Pavlyuchenkova Looking to Cause an Upset
The 27-year-old Pavlyuchenkova is certainly more experienced than her Swiss counterpart, but lacks that kind of ferocity and play as Bencic.
She has 12 singles titles to her name so far and through the course of her career, has defeated many big names. This season, however, Pavlyuchenkova hasn’t looked that comfortable.
While she started the season with a quarterfinal run in the Australian Open and St. Petersburg, her form gradually dwindled as she started losing right in the early rounds. It got far worse on clay when she failed to win even a single match in Madrid, Rome, and Paris.
Unlike Bencic, Pavlyuchenkova didn’t participate in a grass tournament and arrived at Wimbledon without any momentum or traction.
Bencic v Pavlyuchenkova Predictions & Tips
This fixture is going to be more tricky than it looks. While Bencic will start as the overwhelming favourite, Pavlyuchenkova may pose some serious riddles for the Swiss. After all, the Russian has plenty of experience and she will be determined to end her losing streak. All in all, expect an entertaining affair where the Swiss should come out on the top.
