Cori “Coco” Gauff leads the wildcard list awarded by the USTA for the 2019 edition of the US Open after her brilliant run at Wimbledon earlier this year.

Gauff, who was 15 when she made it all the way through to the fourth round at the season’s previous Grand Slam, will be one of 16 singles players who have been awarded the wildcards this year. Gauff’s currently ranked outside the top 140 and will hope a good showing at the year’s final major will help her climb up the WTA ladder and win her direct entries into the future Grand Slam competitions.
She will be joined by former fourth round entrant, American Jack Sock, whose ranking has fallen drastically because of a thumb injury. He hasn’t missed a single US Open entry since 2010 and this wildcard allows him to maintain that record.
Caty McNally, who was Gauff’s doubles partner when they won the title at Washington, is another one to get the wildcard, along with Kristie Ahn, Francesca Di Lorenzo, Whitney Osuigwe and Katie Volynets also of USA. French teenager Diane Parry and former US Open winner and Aussie Samantha Stosur complete the women’s singles wildcard list.
Among the men’s wildcard entrants are Ernesto Escobedo, Christopher Eubanks, Bjorn Fratangelo, Marcos Giron and Zachary Svajda, all of whom are Americans. And like in the women’s draw, a Frenchman, Antoine Hoang and Australia’s Thanasi Kokkinakis complete the men’s wildcard list.
Eight other players will get an entry into the competition through their Protected Ranking, including Tomas Berdych and Svetland Kuznetsova. 16 singles players, eight for the men’s and women’s draw apiece, will qualify for the tournament through the qualifiers played in the week leading up to the main draw.
