Daniil Medvedev v David Goffin Head to Head
The two men have met twice before, with their personal series tied at one match apiece. Both matches have come this year in Grand Slams – Medvedev won on the hard courts of Melbourne, but Goffin avenged that defeat on the grass of Wimbledon.
Medvedev, Third Time Lucky in North America?
Incredibly, this is the third week in a row that Medvedev has been in a final in North America, but having lost to Nick Kyrgios in Washington, and then, in Montreal, to Rafael Nadal, he will feel that he has never had a better chance of winning his first Masters title than against Goffin.
His confidence will be sky-high having produced a stirring comeback on Saturday to defeat the world number one Novak Djokovic on Saturday in their semi-final. A set down, trailing and facing a break point in the second, he looked like he was on the verge of yet another defeat at the hands of an elite player. However, he saved the break and began a fightback, mixing his pace and rhythm on serve to disrupt the Serb.
Risking everything he produced a series of big second serves in a gamble that ultimately paid off, with the 16 aces he produced the most that Djokovic has conceded in any three set match so far this year.

Goffin, Maiden Masters Final
Unlike his opponent, 28 year old Goffin is in his maiden Masters final, his previous best coming this time last year in the same event, where he got to the semi-final, before injury forced him to retire after the first set against Roger Federer.
This year, after having a tough first round draw with Taylor Fritz, the rising young American star, which he battled through to win in three sets, he has had a relatively serene progress to the final. He beat both Guido Pella of Argentina and Adrian Mannarino of France in straight sets, and then had a bye in his quarter-final when his opponent Yoshihito Nishioka of Japan was forced to pull out of their match due to injury.
He met the experienced Frenchman Richard Gasquet in the semi-final, but it was not a high quality match, with both men making a lot of unforced errors. Goffin broke the Gasquet service early in the first set, and consolidated the break to establish an advantage. The Frenchman broke the Goffin serve in the second game of the second set, but then handed the break back again. Goffin then broke the Gasquet serve for a second time to close out the match in straight sets.
Medvedev v Goffin Predictions & Tips
Medvedev is the clear favourite to win this match at 43/100 whilst Goffin is priced at 11/5. The Russian has shown remarkable stamina and consistency to reach three finals in a row, and, if he wins on Sunday, it will be his 43rd singles win of the year, which will make him the leader on tour in that respect.
To have any chance, Goffin will need to cut out the unforced errors that littered his match with Gasquet. He did beat the Russian at Wimbledon but that was on grass – as he found to his cost in Melbourne, Medvedev on hard courts is a different proposition.
Tip: Medvedev to win in two sets: 1/1 (888Sport)
