Belinda Bencic v Donna Vekic Preview & Tips:
There have been three previous meeting between the 12th-ranked Bencic and the 23rd-ranked Vekic and the Swiss holds a 2-1 advantage over her opponent. They last met at the French Open earlier this year and Vekic had wasted no time in winning that third round encounter in straight sets, which is what will give her a lot of hope given the slowness of this surface as well.
Both players are coming off interesting previous round results – Bencic steamrolled the defending champion Naomi Osaka in straight sets to make it to the quarter-finals while Vekic needed to save a match-point against Julia Goerges to turn a set lead against her into a win.
Bencic’s solid form has extended all the way back to after the Hopman Cup – in which she had incidentally lost all her matches – with a title win at Dubai, and a final in Mallorca on grass, but the US Open series wasn’t very kind before the start of this Slam. Vekic was a semi-finalist at San Jose but has struggled after that.
On paper, all of this translates to Bencic starting off as a favourite here but it would surely be a better fought encounter than 4/7 for a Swiss win and 28/17 for Vekic to cause an upset.
Bencic v Vekic Prediction & Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/4 (888Sport)

Bianca Andreescu v Elise Mertens Preview & Tips:
This should be slightly more straightforward than the Bencic-Vekic match. Andreescu is in the form of her life and has openly said so, said she feels very confident of going the full distance and while it’s tough to take players on their face value, it also is seen in what the bookmakers think.
As things stand, Serena Williams is the most obvious favourite to win the title, at 10/11, but Andreescu is second on that list at 5/1. And they are in separate sections of the draw, which should give the Canadian a better shot at the target.
Andreescu is just 19, hasn’t played Mertens before this but her bubbling confidence and her recent results should work hugely in her favour. What she wouldn’t want to do is to underestimate a player like Mertens, who is coming off four back to back straight-set wins including one against Karolina Pliskova. Aim for another three-setter.
Andreescu v Mertens Prediction & Tip: Three sets in the match: 7/5 (888Sport)
