Veronika Kudermetova v Misaki Doi Preview:
This will be the first time that the two, Kudermetova and Doi will be going head to head in a professional match. While the 48th-ranked, second seeded Kudermetova holds the edge in terms of her ranking against the 107th-ranked Doi, it must be worth remembering that the Japanese player is at home and will have the support of the locals.
She is also coming off a straight-set win over Sara Sorribes Tormo, after back to back three-setters – an indicator she is slowly coming into her own. Kudermetova has had quite a contrasting path, with her first two rounds getting done quickly enough before it was followed by a gritty win against Laura Siegemund. Siegemund came back from a set down to level the match but the Russian held out to a win.
This could be another fighting match, what with Kudermetova starting out a favourite (she is 1/2 to win this) but Doi having the speed to test her opposition and push her to the distance.

Nao Hibino v Mihaela Buzarnescu Preview:
The second Japanese player in action today is Nao Hibino, and she will be up against Mihaela Buzarnescu who is ranked 125th in the world – just 21 positions higher than her opponent. That is why this has a feel of a tough match unlike what the odds are suggesting with Buzarnescu at 11/17 to Hibino who starts off at 6/4.
It hasn’t been the best year for Hibino but in this tournament itself she has gotten past Zarina Diyas and Hsieh Su-wei, the latter being the top seed in the competition. While Diyas in the second set when she was trailing by a set, Hibino pounded the top Hsieh 6-4, 6-3 to make the semi-final.
It’s been worse for the 31-year-old Buzarnescu, who was 3-13 on win-loss on hard courts coming into this tournament. Since then, she has doubled the number of wins she has had on this surface but what comes as a bigger surprise is she is yet to drop a set.
