With the Team Europe having taken a 3-1 lead on the first day of the Laver Cup, the onus will now be on Team World to try and not let the tie go away from them. Even if they can hold their opponents to to a 2-2 kind of a result on the second day, it will give them a realistic chance of winning the title, but anything worse than that would imply Team World would need to win all their matches on the final day to have a reasonable chance of taking home the title.
On day two of the competition, Alexander Zverev, fresh from his jaw-dropping partnership with Roger Federer on the first day, will take on American John Isner in the first match of the second day. This will be the eighth time these two players will going up against each other and Zverev leads the head to head 6-1. Isner’s only win came in Miami last year while Zverev has beaten him once at the Laver Cup itself.
The afternoon session will then see Federer take to court for his opening singles match Nick Kyrgios, a player who has beaten him once – in their very first outing way back in 2015. Since then Federer has tamed the Aussie on each of their net five matches. This includes two victories at the Laver Cup, one each of the first two editions.
Rafael Nadal makes his first entry into the tournament this season in the evening session when he takes on Canada’s Milos Raonic, and this is their 12th meeting. The world number two Spaniard last crushed him in straight sets at the 2017 Australian Open but only just before that had lost to Raonic at the Brisbane International. Overall, Nadal leads 9-2 on head to head.
The doubles match of the day will see Nadal combine with Stefanis Tsitsipas as they play the pair of Jack Sock and Kyrgios. Nadal and Kyrgios have never seen eye to eye and Nadal has often stopped short of giving any replies but things could get really interesting here.
