Novak Djokovic v Denis Shapovalov Head to Head
The pair have met twice before, each meeting coming this year. Djokovic won in the third round of the Australian Open in four sets in January, and, much more convincingly, at the Rome Masters in May.
Who Will Stop Djokovic Winning Fifth Title?
Djokovic has won the title in Shanghai more times than any other player, his victories in 2012, 2013, 2015 and again last year, putting him one ahead of Andy Murray. And the question is, who in this field is capable of stopping him, especially given that Rafael Nadal pulled out of the event?
Certainly, the Serbian seems back to his best, returning to the court in Tokyo last week after the shoulder injury that forced him to retire from his fourth round with Stan Wawrinka. And he dispelled any lingering doubts about his fitness by winning the Japanese Open without dropping a set, to claim his 76th career title.
The Serb has already won more Masters titles – 4 – than any other player in history. It is hard to imagine that he will not make it 35 on Sunday.

Shapovalov, Can He End Disappointing 2019 on a High?
Shapovalov has had a difficult year, as the 20 year old has battled for form and consistency. It started reasonably well – he got to the quarter final in Rotterdam, and then equalled his best performance in a Masters’ event by reaching the semi-final in Miami.
However, after that, there were a string of early defeats until he found some semblance of form by reaching the semi-finals in Winston-Salem. He then reached the third round at Flushing Meadows, and then matched his best result of the year with his run to the semi-finals in Chengdu.
Last week he was beaten in the second round in Tokyo by David Goffin, but got his week here off to a good start by beating the American Frances Tiafoe in straight sets on Monday.
Djokovic v Shapovalov Predictions & Tips
Djokovic is the overwhelming odds-on favourite to win this match at 1/8, whilst Shapovalov is priced at 7/1. The disparity in the odds reflects the size of the task Shapovalov faces on Wednesday. It would be a major upset if the Canadian were to win, but it is very unlikely to happen. Instead, Djokovic will more than likely progress serenely through to the third round.
Tip: Djokovic to win in straight sets: 4/9 (888Sport)
