Petra Kvitova v Jennifer Brady Head to Head
The pair have played each other once before in Dubai last year, Kvitova winning in three sets.
Kvitova Has Had a Good Time Playing in Australia
Kvitova has a good record in Australia, having reached the final in Melbourne last year, only to succumb to Naomi Osaka in a three set battle.
That was her first Grand Slam final appearance for the twice Wimbledon champion since she was attacked at her apartment in the Czech Republic, the ramifications of which are still continuing. News came through on Wednesday that the perpetrator was handed an increased jail sentence by local prosecutors.
She began her campaign in Brisbane by dropping the first set to the Russian world number 29 Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, before bouncing back to take the next two, However, her second round match was more straightforward, a straight sets win over another Russian, qualifier Luidmila Samsanova in straight sets.
Brady, Conqueror of Sharapova and Barty
World number 53 Brady had to qualify for the tournament in Brisbane, but, having won her place in the main draw, she is taking full advantage of the opportunity she has won for herself. She began with a straight sets win over the wildcard Maria Sharapova, although the Russian was highly critical of the fact that their match was played on an outside court, because of a scheduling clash with the ATP Cup.
On Thursday, she then recorded the best win of her career on the Pat Rafter Arena, when she beat the world number one, Ashleigh Barty, in front of her home fans. Barty was rusty and made a series of unforced errors, which Brady, playing from the back of the court, was quick to exploit. She secured the only break of the match to take the first set, and then out-lasted her opponent in the second set tie-break.
