David Goffin v Pierre-Hugues Herbert Head to Head

These two have played each other four times before this and Goffin has a 4-0 lead over Herbert. This includes a match as recently as the Australian Open earlier this year, a second round encounter that went to the fifth set which Goffin won 6-3. Can Herbert finally shrug off that poor record he has and push on from having pushed Goffin in that encounter in Melbourne?

Goffin With a Good Start…

…but for a player hoping to consolidate his top 10 spot in the ATP rankings, he would want to do something more than just good. Having not a won a tournament since 2017, that would probably be his first objective – to go the distance in this competition and the good news is he has an opponent in this one who has never beaten him.

Goffin will also take heart from his results against few of the opponents this year, even if he would be unhappy with his third round exit at the Australian Open. A victory against Rafael Nadal at the ATP Cup, wins against Grigor Dimitrov, Jeremy Chardy and Herbert before his second round win here at Montpellier against Alexander Bublik have all shown him to be a seriously high-quality player.

And with the kind of draw Goffin has, a finals berth looks almost certain if he plays to his pedigree.

Herbert Looking to Improve after Hard Court Horrors

It was a terrible time for Herbert on hard court surfaces last year. He won just four of his 13 matches and ended the year on a seven-match losing streak on a whopping eight-match losing streak on hard courts.

Compared to that, he has begun well this year. Herbert reached the quarterfinal at Doha where he lost to a far superior Andrey Rublev – Rublev had also beaten Goffin at the Australian Open later – and then made the second round in Melbourne where Goffin needed five sets to edge him out.

In Montpellier, he might have turned the corner with a shock win over the much-fancied Felix Auger-Aliassime, a straight-set drubbing which should hold him in a good stead in this one.

David Goffin v Pierre-Hugues Herbert Predictions & Tips

We could see a confident Herbert come out fighting in this one but will that be enough to tame the 10th-ranked, second seeded Goffin? Nope, should be a good tussle but Goffin to pouch this one and move to the semifinals.

Tip: Goffin to win: 8/15 (Click here to get these odds with Unibet)
