Leading the draw is the German veteran Julia Goerges, who recently made it into the top 10 after having a remarkable couple of weeks.
She most recently played in the Wimbledon, where she made it all the way to semifinals before losing to Serena Williams. She had a similar run in WTA Charleston earlier this year too, where she was the runner-up. She is fairly strong on clay and is quite likely to start as a favourite here.
Local favourite and 21-year-old Daria Kasatkina is also going to start in the tournament. She has had a spectacular season so far, having made it to the penultimate rounds in many big tournaments.
Kasaktina was also the quarterfinalist in WTA Madrid and French Open, and most recently, she reached the same round in WTA Eastbourne and Wimbledon too. She is among the most consistent players on the tour right now and can very well go the distance in Moscow.

Anastasija Sevastova of Latvia is also going to participate in the event. As a top 30 player, she has had a rather decent season so far.
She was the semifinalist in Charleston (having lost to Goerges) and most recently, she was the runner-up in WTA Mallorca. While her grass season was fairly uneventful, she can more than turn her form around in Moscow.
Mihaela Buzarnescu of Romania is also set to feature in the Moscow River Cup 2018. She rose to prominence this very season after a couple of spectacular tournaments on the tour. She was the semifinalist in WTA Strasbourg and WTA Birmingham and also made it to the fourth round in Roland Garros.
While she hasn’t won a singles title yet, she did come close to winning one in WTA Hobart, where she was the runner-up.
Other participants are Laura Siegemund, Katerina Siniakova, Aliaksandra Sasnovich, Alize Cornet, and Kaia Kanepi.
