Dominic Thiem v Filip Krajinovic Head to Head

This will be the third match between Thiem and Krajinovic. Thiem has won both the previous matches, but neither have come at this level. The first time they met was on the clay courts of the Casablanca Challenger way back in 2013, while their latest meeting was in that ill-fated Adria Tour.

Thiem One of the Most Active Players During Pandemic Break

Having showed solid form before the lockdown in reaching the final of the Australian Open and almost surprising Novak Djokovic before falling short in the final set, Thiem opted not to take much of a break during the pandemic suspension.

The world number three played in a whopping nine tournaments, including one which he was in the organising committee as well, by the name of Thiem’s 7. He won most of the matches, and while the majority of them were played on clay, he also gave himself a chance of featuring on other surfaces like grass at the bett1 Aces tournament and indoor hard court at Bett.

Thiem, who was involved in the Adria Tour as well, was earlier a part of a controversy where he was panned by lower-ranked players to not support the movement to help them out financially during this break. Wonder how much of that would have affected him.

The Austrian, who has made it to three Masters finals – and won the 2019 Indian Wells Masters out of that – is now vying to better his record at Cincinnati where his best showing has been a quarterfinal on two separate occasions.

Krajinovic Breaks into No Sweat

Krajinovic, who is also partnering Novak Djokovic in the doubles in this competition, did not have any issues in getting past his first round opponent Salvatore Caruso. He won 7-5, 6-4 to march into the second round with some confidence.

He would obviously be hoping his doubles partner Djokovic can offer him some tips going into this encounter, but more vitally, Krajinovic has had a good rhythm going. He won seven matches in a row at the Eastern European Championships before this and was a finalist at the Adria Tour where he lost to Thiem.

However, those matches were held on clay and Thiem is a master at that. On hard court surfaces, Krajinovic might get some more push from his own performances earlier in the year at Montpellier and Rotterdam where he was a semifinalist.

Will that, and those Djokovic tips be enough to best one of the best players around on the circuit right now?

Dominic Thiem v Filip Krajinovic Prediction & Tip

This shouldn’t be too much of a problem for Thiem who should wrap it up in straight sets.

Tip: Thiem to win in straight sets: 1/2 (bet365)
