Vera Zvonareva v Laura Siegemund Head to Head
The pair have met once before, and that was earlier this year at the Indian Wells Challenger Series event in March, Zvonareva coming from behind to win in three sets.

Zvonareva, Former Grand Slam Finalist
Now 35, Zvonareva is in the twilight of a long career. Once ranked as high as second in the world, she was a beaten finalist in the women’s singles at both Wimbledon and the US Open in 2010, and she has twice been a semi-finalist in Melbourne.
She also has two women’s and two mixed doubles Grand Slam titles to her name.
And while she also has 12 WTA career titles to her name, the last of those came in 2011, and has since had time away from the sport because of injury, and to have a child.
However, she has enjoyed something of a renaissance, winning three doubles titles in the past two years, with three different partners.
Now ranked down at 270 in the world, she did not play in Melbourne, failed to qualify in St. Petersburg, and then was beaten in the second round in Doha. She did reach the final of that event in Indian Wells, but was forced to scratch due to injury.
Last week she was beaten in the first round in Lexington by Jessica Puig, and had to come through two rounds of qualifying to reach the main draw here. However, she then enjoyed an encouraging three-set shock win over Magda Linette of Poland, the world number 36, on Sunday.

Siegemund, the Third Ranked German Player
Siegemund is the current third ranked player in Germany, but, despite turning pro in 2006, she had to wait a decade before winning her first WTA tournament at Bastad in 2016. That was followed by success in the Stuttgart Open the following year, but, in more recent years, her greatest triumphs have come on the doubles court.
She has won five titles, including the premier Kremlin Cup in 2018, and, more recently, the Guangzhou Open last September.
The German had a mixed start to 2020. She reached the third round in Auckland, but was knocked-out at the second-round stage in Melbourne by Karolina Pliskova. She then qualified for the main draw in Doha, but was then well beaten by Ashleigh Barty.
After playing in a series of exhibition matches post-lockdown, she was beaten at the second-round stage in both Palermo and Prague.
Like Zvonareva, she had to come through two rounds of qualifying first in this tournament, but then enjoyed an impressive three set win over the world number 18, Marketa Vondrousova, on Sunday.
Vera Zvonareva v Laura Siegemund Prediction & Tip
This is a very close match to call, with both women having had to qualify to get to this stage. Siegemund is the higher ranked player, but Zvonareva has been in Grand Slam finals, even in her glory days are behind her. This could well go to three sets.
Tip: Zvonareva to win in three sets: 10/3 (bet365)
