Anett Kontaveit v Jil Teichmann Head to Head
This will be the very first time Kontaveit will take on Teichmann in a competitive match.

Having reached the final of the Palermo Open in the first week of tennis’ return after the pandemic lockdown, Kontaveit showed her prowess wasn’t restricted to just clay with a powerful first round win here.
Starting off against Daria Kasatkina, a former world number 10, Kontaveit wasted no time win 6-3, 6-1 in under an hour. She was slow off the blocks though, going down 2-0 in the first set but once the Estonian found her rhythm there was no stopping her. She reeled off 12 of the next 14 games to clinch the match and set up this second round showdown with Teichmann.
Kontaveit credited her excellent serving for the result, getting nearly 70% of her first serves in.
With this win, Kontaveit is now 17-6 on win-loss this year, which includes quarterfinal appearances at the Australian Open and WTA Dubai. She will need all of that experience against her second round opponent though given the kind of form Teichmann herself has been in.

Teichmann Looking to Continue Fine Fettle
Having played a tournament on clay during the pandemic break, Teichmann came roaring back on the hard courts of the Lexington Open where she reached the final.
In doing so, the Swiss world number 54 defeated Ana Kalinskaya, Yulia Putintseva, Cici Bellis and Shelby Rogers, all in straight sets before falling to Jennifer Brady in the final.
And while she started out in the qualifying rounds in New York for this Western & Southern Open, there was no going back from that form. Teichmann again won both her qualifiers without dropping a set and then routed Danielle Collins 6-3, 6-3 to move into the second round.
Now Kontaveit might be a seeded player and a top-20 player but in this kind of a mood, Teichmann will be someone to beckon with. Can she land a killer blow though, adding the Estonian as another scalp in her list of top-20 wins. At Palermo last year, she had also defeated the fifth-ranked Kiki Bertens.
