Karen Khachanov v Roberto Bautista-Agut Head to Head
This is the eighth time Khachanov and Bautista-Agut will be facing off in a competitive match and the Spaniard leads 5-2. Only two of those seven matches have come on hard court surfaces and Bautista-Agut has won both, including one at the Australian Open of 2019.
Both of Khachanov’s wins have come on clay and they played as recently as a few weeks ago during the pandemic break at the Thiem’s Seven Invitational competition where Bautista-Agut won in straight sets.

Khachanov Dispatches a Spaniard
The Russian will need to make it two wins in two matches against Spaniards after having routed Pablo Carreno Busta in straight sets in his second round match. Khachanov, who had played just four matches during the pandemic break was stretch by Busta in the first set, but came through comfortably in the end, 7-6, 6-1 to seal his third round berth.
That win followed another straight-set victory against Alexander Bublik in round one in which he was on court for 84 minutes. It had been his first ATP match in six months and after he had gotten used to the new surroundings and rules, things eased his way.
Khachanov had had a middling kind of a season before the pandemic struck. He had registered four wins at the ATP Cup to help Russia make the semifinals where he and his team lost to Dusan Lajovic and Serbia respectively.
A third round loss to Nick Kyrgios at the Australian Open in what was one of the matches of the tournament followed before two ordinary performances in Marseille and Rotterdam meant the quarterfinal at Dubai was bit of a relief.

Bautista-Agut Trumps Gasquet
In a match between two players on the wrong side of 30, Bautista-Agut easily came through against Richard Gasquet to enter the third round. Bautista-Agut won 7-5, 6-1 in what was his first victory since having won his first round match at Rotterdam in February.
The Spaniard then lost the second round of that competition to Pablo Carreno Busta before falling in the first round of Dubai Open to Jan-Lennard Struff, effectively ending his season with those two defeats.
During the pandemic break, Bautista-Agut featured in a string of tournaments, but after winning a couple of matches on clay at the Valencia Challenge, he registered just three more wins from nine further matches. One of those victories, however, was against Khachanov.
Karen Khachanov v Roberto Bautista-Agut Prediction & Tip
Bautista-Agut is hugely favoured to win this match at 8/13 and the reason is to do with their head to head which points to Khachanov needing the help of clay to beat his opponent. Khachanov’s chances greatly dwindle on a fast court like this against a player who relishes these conditions and Bautista-Agut could even pouch this in straight sets.
Tip: Bautista-Agut to win: 8/13 (bet365)
