Taylor Fritz v Stefano Travaglia Head to Head
Fritz has a losing record against his opponent on Monday, having lost a singles rubber to Travaglia at the ATP Cup in January. This will be their second career meeting.

Opportunity Missed for Fritz in New York
Taylor Fritz will find himself competing at this week’s Italian Open for the fourth year running, but the scenario could have been very much different had he progressed into the second week of the just-concluded US Open.
The 22-year-old American had never before reached the Round of 16 at a Grand Slam. He had destiny in his own racket to change that narrative when he served for the match at 5-3 in the fourth set against Denis Shapovalov in their third round meeting in New York. Fritz though fluffed his lines and played a dud game to get broken. Shapovalov won the set eventually and took control of the match.
The San Diego native enjoyed a phenomenal start to 2020 and will hope to put the disappointment in New York behind him. He was tipped by many to achieve a significant breakthrough at the biggest events after breezing past a phalanx of heavy hitters to make his first final at ATP 500 level in Acapulco in February.
Fritz is currently ranked at no.25 in the world, just a spot down from his career-high ranking achieved after the Mexican Open.

Travaglia Yet to Get on Tour This Season
Stefano Travaglia has enjoyed little success on the main tour, recording just a pair of victories all year. You would have to jot down all the way to the start of January at the ATP Cup to find his two wins, and incidentally one of those came against Taylor Fritz in a singles rubber.
However, he has found more joy on the Challenger tour where he made the finals in Bendigo just before the Australian Open, and a semifinal in Bengaluru. For the Italian, the story was not too dissimilar last season, with Travaglia sweeping the Challenger with title wins in Sopoty and Francavilla, and struggling big time to translate that success on the senior tour.
The 28-year-old naturally prefers to play on the clay surface, mixing power with spin. His forehand is brutal, much like his fellow compatriot Berrettini, and arrives in Rome with some serious fitness levels on the dirt after making another semifinal at the Prostejov Challenger in Czech Republic just a few days ago.
Travalgia is currently ranked at no.87 in the world, his highest ceiling being world no.74 which he achieved in January.
Fritz v Travaglia Prediction & Tip
This is a tough opening round for Taylor Fritz playing a home favorite on his preferred surface. That, coupled with Travaglia’s confidence-boosting week in the Prostejov Challenger, puts the Italian in good stead.
Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 5/6 (bet365)
