Who is playing?

It’s been a strange sort of a men’s draw with the pull-out of Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer for different reasons and Novak Djokovic’s default after he ended up hitting a lines-woman in his match against Pablo Carreno Busta.

With Stefanos Tsitsipas getting knocked out early, it turned out to be a four-way battle between Thiem, Zverev, Daniil Medvedev and Carreno Busta in the semifinal. Thiem proved to be too strong for Medvedev, winning their semifinal in straight sets while Zverev looked like he had muffed up his lines against Carreno Busta when he went a couple of sets down.

The German bounced back to win the next three and make his first ever Grand Slam final, having earlier entered the Australian Open semifinal this year. Thiem, on the other hand, has played in majors final, as recently as the Australian Open 2020 and even before that at the French Open.

When will the US Open 2020 Men’s Singles Final be played?

The Thiem-Zverev final will be played on Sunday, September 13 and expected to begin at around 4 pm local time, which is 9 pm BST. and 10 pm in Germany and Austria.

Are there any other matches on the day?

There are three other finals which will be on show on the day other than the men’s singles final. The day will kick-start with the wheelchair women’s doubles finals at the Arthur Ashe Stadium which will see Marjolein Buis and Diede de Groot take on Yui Kamiji and Jordanne Whiley for the title.

At the Louis Armstrong Stadium, the wheelchair men’s singles final will be played between Japan’s Shingo Kuneida and Alfie Hewett, while Dylan Alcott takes on Sam Schroder in the wheelchair quad singles title-decider.

What are the bookmakers saying?

It’s interesting to note despite both players hunting for their maiden title, bookmakers have tipped Thiem to be a very strong favourite here with bet365 offering a rather short 1/4 for his win. Zverev starts off at 3/1 and one can almost be tempted to trade on that one.

Thiem continues to be shockingly short at 5/4 to win this in straight sets against a stodgy fighting Zverev.

If you think it would be a hard-fought encounter, you can also take a look at the number of games in the match, with over 37.5 games pegged at 5/6 for this one.
