Alison Riske v Aliona Bolsova Head to Head
Riske and Bolsova have never played each other before this in a competitive match.

Riske’s Clay Court Play Underwhelming
Since the start of her career and counting all types of tournaments that Riske has played on clay, she has a win-loss record of 54-69 on that surface. It’s a record she would do well to forget walking into this opening match at the Italian Open.
Unfortunately her more recent form on clay isn’t much to write home about either.
Last season, for instance, Riske broke into the top 20 and peaked at her career-best ranking of 18th despite playing and losing all four of her matches on clay. While she made it to the final at four different competitions in 2019, Riske lost in the opening rounds at the Madrid Open, Rome Open, Nurnberg and then at Roland-Garros.
Riske has played just a couple of clay court matches this season and both came as a part of the Credit Bank One International exhibition competition. She won and lost one apiece.

Bolsova’s Won Just One Main Draw Match
In 2020, the 103rd-ranked Bolsova hasn’t won too many matches in the main draw of events, needing to qualify at most and managing just a solitary victory at the US Open. That was a shock win too, when she overcame Jil Teichmann in the first round at Flushing Meadows, an opponent who had gone into the match at 13/100 to win the encounter.
However, the big plus for Bolsova is her solid record on clay, albeit at the lower circuit. Last year, for instance, she was 20-12 on clay and in 2018 this record was a whopping 34-11 on the red dirt.
Five of Bolsova’s six ITF-level titles – the only kind of tournaments she has won – have come on clay too. In short she has the game for this surface, it’s now a matter of trying to up the ante at a notch above most of the tennis she would have played.
Riske v Bolsova Prediction & Tip
It might not be a straightforward match for either, and we are expecting three sets in this encounter.
Tip: Three sets in the match: 11/8 (bet365)
