Kevin Anderson v Laslo Djere Head to Head
Two previous encounters between these two have both resulted in an Anderson win. The first came at the 2019 Pune Open where Anderson needed two tie-breakers to get past the Serb before beating Djere in straight sets at the French Open earlier this year.

Anderson Improving With Each Tournament
Having been laid low because of injury through most part of 2019 and with the pandemic playing havoc this year, Anderson has generally struggled to find the kind of form which had taken him to fifth in the world rankings.
Anderson resumed the post-pandemic season with one win from four tournaments – an opening round victory over Kyle Edmund at the Cincinnati Masters followed by four successive defeats.
That being said, there have been signs in the last two tournaments he has participated in of improvement. Signs of resurrection. At the French Open, traditionally never an Anderson favourite as far as surfaces go, the South African made it to the third round before going down to Andrey Rublev.
And then last week in a stacked draw at Vienna, Anderson stunned Dennis Novak, Pablo Carreno-Busta and Daniil Medvedev to move into the semifinal. Again, he lost to the roaring Rublev, who would go on to win his fifth title of the season.
The fact, however, is Anderson looks to have regained a lot of his rhythm and starts off with the kind of confidence you would expect from a top-10 player.

Djere Hasn’t Won Indoors Since 2017
It was in Moscow in 2017 that Djere won a round indoors before losing in the second to Mirza Basic. Since then, the Serb has won the odd match at the Challengers or even the qualifiers of ATP tournaments but never in the main draw!
This season, Djere’s only two matches indoors came in the qualifiers here in Paris and he looked to have ended the season on a 1-1 win-loss record on this surface after losing in the second qualifying round to Marcos Giron. As luck would have it, he still qualified for the main draw and now has the huge task of playing an in-form Anderson.
Djere is a clay court specialist which can be seen from the fact he has played just two other matches on hard court surfaces since the season resumed in August. Both resulted in first round losses, at the Cincinnati Masters and US Open, and since then he has featured exclusively on clay – even foregoing ATP tournaments in favour of playing in Challengers.
And while Djere’s form on clay has been excellent – he was a semifinalist at the Kitzbuhel and then won the Sardinia Open – it’s tough to see how he can translate that on the quicker surfaces of the Paris Masters.
Anderson v Djere Prediction and Tip
Anderson is 2/9 to win this while Djere starts off a distant 3/1. The biggest question is whether Djere can win a set here and we don’t quite think Anderson’s going to capitulate like that.
Tip: Djere to win a set – NO: 8/13 (bet365)
