De Minaur Flawless In Opening Round

The Antalya Open is not televised this year, but judging by the numbers, it was a near-perfect performance by Alex De Minaur to get his 2021 campaign up and running.

The young Aussie – winner of three ATP titles – is a strong contender to walk away with his fourth title in Turkey’s resort city next week. He dismantled Tunisia’s Malek Jaziri 6-1 6-2, converting five out of 10 break point chances. He was impeccable on his own delivery too, mustering over 80% of both first and second serves.

Granted the 21-year-old took full advantage of a very kind opener against the 36-year-old legs of Jaziri, his agility will still be on show even against a player below his age, starting with a meeting against Bulgarian teenager Adrian Andreev.

De Minaur did not match the dizzying heights of his 2019 season last year, but he still managed to reach the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam for the first time at the US Open and the made the finals in Antwerp where he lost to an inspired Ugo Humbert.

Third Time Is A Charm For Andreev

Little know Adrian Andreev is currently ranked at no.564 in the world rankings. After the cut-off list dropped so low, he earned the opportunity to qualify in the main draw of an ATP tournament. He beat Lukas Klein and Andrea Vavassori in qualifying – two players ranked over 200 spots above him in the rankings.

It is not the firtst time the Bulgarian teenager has played in the main draw at tour-level. He earned two wildcard entries in two successive years at the Sofia Open in the past two seasons, after the tournament orgnaizers spotted his massive potential and a run of good results at the ITF level.

Andreev had twice lost in the first round in Sofia previosuly, but he set the record straight against Marsel Ilhan to earn his first main draw victory of his embryonic tennis career. He is yet to drop a set in three matches, can he pull off the biggest upset of the opening week by taking down Australia’s De Minaur?

De Minaur v Andreev Prediction and Tip

Andreev broke his duck at last in main draw matches, but this will be a real step up in quality against one of the tour’s best performing players in the last 18 months.

Tip: De Minaur to win in straight sets: 1/3 (bet365)
