Sasai Zheng v Irina-Camelia Begu Head to Head
The 26-year-old Chinese has a 2-0 lead over the 30-year-old Romanian, having won at Ningbo in 2013 and at Hua Hin in 2019. Both of those matches were two-set affairs.

Zheng Looking To Pick from Where She Left
World No. 42 Sasai Zheng will be back in action after almost a year.
In her last appearance on the Tour, back in February 2020, Zheng defeated Marketa Vondrousova, Vera Zvonareva and Kiki Bertens on her way to the quarterfinals of the Qatar Open, before being knocked out of the tournament by eventual champion Aryna Sabalenka, who rallied from a set down to win the last eight contest.
The 2019 French Open doubles runner-up, Zheng reached her highest singles ranking of 34 in March last year. It was also in 2019 that Zheng captured her only WTA title, winning the Silicon Valley Classic by beating Sabalenka in straight sets in the final.
Ever since breaking into the top 50 in 2018, Zheng has produced good results and shown constant improvement to keep her place among the top 50 in the world.

Begu Looking to Make a Winning Start
Facing Zheng in the first round will be last year’s Prague Open semifinalist Irina-Camelia Begu of Romania. A former World No. 22, Begu has won four singles and nine doubles titles on the Tour.
Last year, the 30-year-old right-hander won an ITF title and a WTA $125k competition at Indian Wells, where she didn’t drop a single set in the entire tournament.
The winner of the Zheng-Begu match will either face Aiaksandra Sasnovic or Lesi Tsurenko in the next round.
Zheng v Begu Prediction and Tip
While Begu is more experienced, Zheng has the better game. But it will be interesting to see if Zheng is affected by the long break and if Begu can stop the Chinese from getting into a rhythm. Zheng should still emerge as the winner of the contest.
Tip: Zheng to win: 11/10 (bet365)
