Elina Svitolina v Shelby Rogers Head to Head
There have been three previous matches between these two players and each of the three have been won by Svitolina. All three came on hard court surfaces and the most recent one of them was played in the third round of the 2017 US Open where Svitolina came through 6-4, 7-5.

A quarterfinal at the Abu Dhabi Open, another quarterfinal at the Gippsland Trophy and a fourth round appearance at the Australian Open.
This is how Svitolina has begun her 2021 season and while on paper, a 9-5 win-loss record sounds better than most, she would also know she would like to do a lot better than that.
Especially for a player ranked fifth in the world and wanting to win her maiden Grand Slam at some point this season.
Svitolina would be particularly disappointed with her performances in Doha and Dubai where she played three matches and lost two. These included defeats at the hands of Victoria Azarenka in the second round of the former and against Svetlana Kuznetsova in the opener at Dubai.
And what makes it doubly interesting now is she starts things off in this competition with a tricky opponent in the form of the in-form Rogers, who is baying to take a scalp of a big-ticket player.

Rogers Eases Past Brengle
In-form Rogers gave Madison Brengle not a lot of chances in her first round match and came through in an hour and eight matches. In an all-American match, Rogers won 6-3, 6-3 to march into the second round for only the second time in Miami.
Rogers broke her opponent twice in the first set and got an all-decisive break in the eighth game of the second set before serving out for the match. In return, Rogers faced just three break-points in the entire match and staved off all of them with ease.
The world number 52 had earlier made it as far as the fourth round at the Australian Open as well, while being a quarterfinalist at the Yarra Valley Classic and the Adelaide International. More recently, Rogers lost in the second round of the WTA Dubai but even that defeat came at the hands of an in-form Elise Mertens.
So while Rogers has been the form player of the season, she has found it difficult to get past some of the top-10 players and that could prove to be a telling factor here.
Svitolina v Rogers Prediction and Tip
Interesting to note that Svitolina is as long as 4/5 to win this against a player who is ranked nearly 50 places behind her. And that’s to do with her own form as much as it’s to do with Rogers having begun well this season. Still backing Svitolina to come good and win this.
