Kevin Anderson v Thiago Monteiro Head to Head

The players have met once, at the Maharashtra Open in 2018 where Anderson was leading by a set before Monteiro withdrew.

Anderson Continues To Seek Career Resurgence

Kevin Anderson had a promising 2017-2018 that saw him make the finals at the US Open and Wimbledon, as well as attain a career high ranking of number five in the world on the ATP tour. Anderson’s remarkable comeback against Roger Federer in the 2018 Wimbledon quarter-finals down match point in the third set, to win in a marathon decider will forever be etched in tennis fans’ memories.

2019 was a year of injuries and disappointment for the South African and it was a difficult recovery, with him dropping out of the top 100 in the ATP rankings. Anderson looked at making a comeback in the pandemic-hit shortened 2020 season, but it was challenging and difficult.

After several disappointing comeback losses, Anderson finally hit form on the faster indoor courts in Vienna where he made the semi-finals towards the end of the 2020 season, defeating Daniil Medvedev en route and losing to eventual champion Andrey Rublev.

Beginning the 2021 season in Australia at the Melbourne ATP 250, Anderson looked in good touch defeating Feliciano Lopez convincingly before falling against Karen Khachanov. He ran into in-form Matteo Berrettini in the Aussie Open first round and unfortunately a good fight was not good enough for the South African.

Anderson has not played since the Melbourne Slam with a niggle or two keeping him away, but is back on his favored hard courts and will really be hoping for a decent run here before the more challenging clay season begins for him.

Monteiro In Midst Of Decent ’21 Season

26-year old Brazilian Thiago Monteiro has been on the tour for the second half of the last decade. With a strong baseline game and a topspin left handed forehand, he has idolized his game on Rafael Nadal. Monteiro had a good run at the ATP Challenger and ITF Futures, but not yet met with success on the main ATP Tour, with his ranking hovering around the top 80 in the world.

2021 was off to a positive start for the Brazilian, with a round of 16 at the Delray Beach Open and a semi-final at the ATP 250 in Melbourne. He ran into a red-hot Andrey Rublev in the second round of the Aussie Open which ended his campaign there.

He has since had decent runs on the South American clay courts at the Cordoba Open and Argentina Open and will now be looking for a good run here in Miami so he can break into the top 50 in the world sooner rather than later.

Anderson v Monteiro Prediction and Tip

A good contest between the experience of Anderson and the current form of Monteiro. The South African will feel the nerves as he continues to race against fitness and age and returns to the circuit again.

A tight match ahead, but the big Anderson serve should just see him through.

Tip:  Anderson to win in three sets : 3/1 (bet365)
