Veronika Kudermetova v Danielle Collins Head to Head
This will be the first meeting between Kudermetova and Collins at any competitive level.

When Kudermetova upset Elina Svitolina on her way to making it to the final of the Abu Dhabi Open in January, it looked like she was on her way to breaking into the top 30 for the first time. Unfortunately for her, it hasn’t all gone her way since that result.
Sure, there was a third round appearance at the Australian Open to boot, but with just two wins from the next six matches after that run, Kudermetova sure has struggled to get going.
More recently, at the St. Petersburg Open, Kudermetova came through her opening match, a second round win against Kamilla Rakhimova before falling to Daria Kasatkina in the quarterfinals. Just prior to that, Kudermetova had lost to Belinda Bencic in Dubai and then there was a loss at the hands of Garbine Muguruza in Doha.
The common thread here is Kudermetova has been unfortunate to be drawn into difficult matches early in the tournament, and that looks like it could continue here with the kind of opponent first up. And even if the Russian does win, there is every chance of facing Aryna Sabalenka in the next round.

Collins Rams Past Kristina
In about 83 minutes of play, Collins made it through to the second round of the competition with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Frenchwoman Kristina Mladenovic. Collins drew first blood in her opener by breaking Mladenovic in the sixth game and while that was followed by the French player breaking back immediately, the American responded with another break of serve which saw her through to the first set.
The second set was slightly more bizarre in that the players held their serves in only three of the nine games which were played. Collins was up two breaks early in the set, dropped serve soon after that and then broke again to go 5-2 up.
And while the world number 40 failed to serve it out, she broke Mladenovic yet again to wrap up the encounter and seal her second round berth.
This follows a semifinal appearance at the Phillip Island Trophy and another quarterfinal at the Adelaide International, both of which ended with Collins losing to the eventual champions Daria Kasatkina and Iga Swiatek.
She could make things very interesting here against a player who has the talent but needs to find her range.
Kudermetova v Collins Prediction and Tip
While Collins starts off a favourite it’s tough to rule Collins out in this one, and we could see a tough battle ahead. A three-setter on the cards looks likely.
